MASS Concrete was delighted to produce trophies for the prestigious event, the UK Concrete Society Awards in November 2016.
The vision behind the concept designed by Abi Parsons, was initially the 2016 Olympics hosted in the UK and the conical torch carried by the runners, but it is also an extrusion of the letter ‘C’.
Using advanced 3D CNC machining, along with new and innovative mould techniques, the winner's trophy was a light-coloured concrete in MASS Concrete’s ‘Aluminium White’. Glass glitter was included in the matrix that, once the trophy had been etched, would add a discreet sparkle to the surface.
For the Highly Commended trophy, a popular Graphite Grey concrete was chosen – a great contrast to the satin stainless steel plaques.
To seal and protect the finished trophies, a new sealant system was used – an impregnating waterproofing system and surface dressing – and one that can be easily maintained.
Abi Parsons concludes, “We believe that the possibilities are virtually limitless and are really looking forward to developing the concept for future year awards.”
