A sculpted concrete feature wall for Morphe’s new beauty space on Oxford Street.
MASS Concrete created a bespoke sculpted GRC feature wall for Morphe’s new beauty space at Selfridges, Oxford Street, designed by Beyond London. Nine bespoke panels feature a flowing brushstroke relief inspired by Morphe’s signature make-up brushes, with illuminated MORPHE lettering integrated into the wall.
The panels were developed and manufactured by MASS Concrete to bring Beyond London’s artwork into a tactile concrete surface, creating a distinctive feature within the retail space.
Bespoke Concrete Design
Working closely with Beyond London and Trent Shopfitters, MASS Concrete translated the original brushstroke artwork into a sculpted relief across four separate wall planes.
The nine 1200mm-high GRC panels were formed using bespoke polymer mould liners, allowing the brushstroke texture to be accurately reproduced. The external corner was detailed as a mitre, allowing the artwork to flow continuously around the corner.
Integrated hole-centre markers were also cast directly into the moulds, ensuring the fixing and cable points for the illuminated MORPHE lettering aligned precisely during installation.
Material & Finish
The panels were cast in GRC using LPG125, a Light Portland Grey mix colour-matched to the provided reference, with a very light etched surface finish was applied to enhance the texture of the sculpted relief.
3mm open joints with a blacked-out backing create crisp shadow lines between the panels, further defining the overall design.
Installation in a Live Retail Environment
The panels were installed overnight while Selfridges continued trading, with the installation carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to the store.
Following changes to the programme and panel dimensions, MASS Concrete re-mapped the artwork and adapted the panels to meet the revised installation date.
