BB12 C16_R_RESIN – Basalt Black Building Waste Concrete

Raw and textured, BB12_C16_R is the retarded version of our polished BB12_C16. As the panel is cast, a retarder slows the set at the mould face; once demoulded, the surface paste is washed back to uncover the reclaimed aggregate within: crushed brick from building waste, recycled shingle and fine black basalt dust. Set against the deep blue-black matrix, the cream, ochre and terracotta pieces stand out in relief, catching the light along their edges. The LRV of this mix is 19.20% in a polished finish, and will vary with the exposed aggregate.

Where polishing slices each piece flat, retarding lets it keep its natural shape. The brick shows its rough, broken edges, the shingle, graded from 10mm up to 40mm, builds a rugged, uneven relief, and the dark matrix sits back between them, so the surface reads almost like weathered rock scattered with lighter stones.

Wall panels, cladding and furniture make the most of it, wherever depth and shadow are part of the design. Its darkness and grip also make it a strong choice for façades, landscaping and entrances that want a bold, robust surface with an honest, unfinished character.

Every grain of sand and aggregate here has been used before, which keeps building waste out of landfill and avoids quarrying new stone. Local sourcing keeps transport distances short and supports regional supply chains, and the aggregate size, pigment balance and depth of exposure can all be adjusted to suit the brief.
