TER27 C2_R_RESIN – Terracotta Retarded: Pink Reclaimed Granite Concrete

TER27_C2_R gives the soft, blush-toned matrix of our polished TER27_C2 a textured, tactile finish. During production a retarder is applied to the mould face, and when the panel comes out of the mould the surface paste is washed back to reveal the reclaimed granite underneath. Cream, black and grey stones rise from the pale pink ground, so the colour stays gentle while the surface gains plenty of grain and grip. The LRV of this mix is 39.66% in a polished finish, and will vary with the exposed aggregate.

That granite begins in Cornwall’s Clay Country around St Austell. Extracting china clay leaves far more rock behind than clay, roughly nine tonnes for every one, and over the years it has piled up into the white peaks locally called the Cornish Alps. The clay itself is weathered granite, so its by-product is a tough blend of quartz, feldspar and mica. Our St Austell supplier washes, crushes and grades it before we use it in place of newly quarried stone. In a retarded finish there’s nowhere for it to hide: the reclaimed stone is the surface.

Texture and light play across the exposed face, which makes it well suited to wall panels, cladding and furniture. The paler tone softens the rawness of the finish, so it brings a natural, hand-made character without feeling heavy, from building façades to courtyards and landscape features.

Putting a waste material to a second use means less virgin stone is extracted, and processing it takes less energy than quarrying new aggregate. Aggregate size, pigment balance and depth of exposure can all be tailored to the brief.
